My Argument On Recycling

I am currently a member of the Green Life Organization. My goal is to promote recycling on the USI campus. Recycling is a very good thing for the environment. We should all recycle because it makes the Earth better for not only us, but for our kids and future generations as well. There are many places on campus where you can recycle. Most of the recycling bins are right next to the dumpsters so when you do take your trash to the dumpster you can just recycle it on the way.

A couple of good reasons I think why people should recycle are because it is good for the economy, it reduces waste, it’s good for the environment, it reduces the amount of garbage that gets put into the landfill, and it saves energy. It is also a cost effective process. It will save us money in the long run, because we will be reusing items that we would usually just throw away. It also reduces on the world overall pollution issues.

When you recycle, you are not throwing things that cannot decompose in the landfills and will be there forever. They can melt or press the materials down and re makes them into new products. It will cut down on supply of the material such as plastic, glass, rubber, etc. Recycling will also help the global warming issues. It can reduce the number of greenhouse gases that are put off by the non-decomposing materials, making the air we breathe cleaner, the water more pure, and the soil that we plant crops and plants in less chemically altered. It also makes the locations look cleaner and more appealing. More people will want to go to a place that is clean and safe for their families to play and have picnics, because people don't want to go someplace that has bottles and plastic wrappers laying all over the ground.

There are also a lot of negative things that could happen if you didn't recycle. Water could become contaminated and it wouldn't be as safe to drink. Also, it would affect the fish in the water. With them being in the water that's contaminated, them and their eggs they lay themselves would become contaminated, and when the eggs hatch, they will have genetic defects or extra bacteria that could affect everything.
It would also affect the land we plant our crops and trees in. If the ground and soil got too contaminated with materials, it could get to the point that we could not grow crops and food for ourselves and other people. That would also affect the air quality, because without the ability to plant trees, more carbon dioxide that is given off we wouldn't be able to manage that with the planting of more trees.
Also, that would affect global warming and the greenhouse effect. The more greenhouse gases we get trapped inside our atmosphere from the decaying and non-degradable materials, the larger the holes in our ozone layer will get. That will allow higher temperatures and more unsafe UV rays to be allowed to get to the Earth's surface. That would in effect cause the polar icecaps to melt faster and more drastic weather and climate changes.

Many people do recycle, but it would be great if we could get even more people to recycle. What some people do not know is that water bottles can be recycled and be made into shirts, carpets, blankets, scarf’s, hats, mittens, and bags. I feel like if more people were aware of how many things could easily be recycled and if they knew all the facts I think they would choose to help out a lot more.

I think this is a great start on getting our point across on recycling. If everyone could just get involved and just recycle some papers, water bottles, and cans it would be a great start into helping our campus and Evansville as a whole.

Proposal

I am currently a member of the Green Life Organization. My goal is to promote recycling on the USI campus. Recycling is a very good thing for the environment. We should all recycle because it makes the Earth better for not only us, but for our kids and future generations as well. There are many places on campus where you can recycle. Most of the recycling bins are right next to the dumpsters so when you do take your trash to the dumpster you can just recycle it on the way.

The reason why most people do not recycle is because they do not want to take the time out of there busy lives or non busy lives to do it. My solution for this goal is to offer variety of rewards on campus for those who do choose to recycle. Most college students would be more willing to do anything if there is some kind of reward offered for them in return. I do think that the rewards would have to change every now and then or they would get bored with it and choose not to recycle anymore.

I think people should want to recycle because there are so many good reasons to recycle out there. A couple of good reasons I think why people should recycle are because it is good for the economy, it reduces waste, it’s good for the environment, it reduces the amount of garbage that gets put into the landfill, and it saves energy.

My solution for this proposal is to make fliers and brochures. I’m going to be making the fliers and brochures colorful so they catch people’s eyes right away. The fliers have the three R’s, which mean Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. It also will have the recycling symbol in the middle of the page. My brochures will have tons of facts and why people should recycle. They will also have pictures of what the recycling bins look like on campus and pictures of examples on what should go into the recycling bins on campus. The recycling bins on the USI campus will have signs on them saying aluminum, plastic, and paper.

I think this is a great start on getting our point across on recycling. If everyone could just get involved and just recycle some papers, water bottles, and cans it would be a great start into helping our campus and Evansville as a whole.

Public Discourse

I don't ever get involved in public discourse because I personally feel that most of the time it's a waste of time. I feel like I could be doing other things instead of that. I believe when you state your opinion most the time about politics or religion someones going to probably pick an argument. I personally choose not to participate in one of those arguments.

Analyzing A Blog

The reason that I chose this blog was to wonder what it would be like for a housekeeper working to make ends meat, then getting kicked to the curb like an old dog. I like some of the things that the writer has described in the blog about the family would have more money and you learn responsibility being a stay at home mom. I also like that the writer comments on how the family income issue is an important issue. She states that although one person brings in the soul income they are better off without a housekeeper.

Another thing that I like was that the writer was not so gentle she was harsh in some ways to the viewing audience. The writer stated that although her house may not be as clean as what the housekeeper could have kept it at, but that she will do her best to keep it clean and that the housekeeper could clean her own toilets. The writer believes that to be the best she has to do hard work and keep her house clean even when she has company over. Although not the cleanest house can still be a good house to walk into as long it is not completely trashed. The writer makes sure that she is responsible and cleans up after herself and her family when inviting guests over for coffee and an hour chat.

I also like that the writer believes in what she talks about. She describes that she does not have to live in a rich neighborhood to have a housekeeper but she likes the fact that she can be at home and watch over the house and kids. She also likes being back in her home country of England. She also says that she does not like that she moves from place to place, that’s why they rent their houses instead of purchasing them. Another thing the writer describes is that although the family has one income, she discarded the housekeeper because it takes money from the initially income that is brought into the family. She also does not like that she can’t re-fix the house up they are living in because she knows that they will move again.

I recommended others to view this blog and get a sense of how the writer feels when composing this blog. You need to view the good and bad side of it. Make sure to read it carefully a couple of times because if you read it fast you might miss important parts. Compare and contrast the ideas of what the writer wrote about. Also explain the rights and the wrongs of this blog, and tell what the writer should include or exclude from this blog. If you want to when you are finished you can comment on the things that you liked or didn’t like about the blog and let the writer know what changes you think should be made to this blog.
